Collection Development

The line development project was completed in parts over many weeks. For the first part, I was assigned to choose a country/culture/ethnic group to research. I then took that research and turned it into a concept board to use as a resource when developing a collection of textiles to use in an athleisure clothing line. I chose to study Italy for its culture, fashion, history, art, and architecture. I also felt a personal connection to Italy as I am Italian. When designing my textiles I made sure to include parts of the architecture and culture that fascinate me such as arches and national sports.

I first used Photoshop to create an inspiration board of photos that represented Israel and its culture. I then created my first artboard in Illustrator, this showcased my inspiration board, color swatches with Pantone color codes, and the icons that would be used to create my textile patterns. I used Illustrator again to create my second art board which featured six patterns developed in two distinct colorways. I then created a slide deck, where I expanded on my thought process regarding all of the components of the first part of the line development project.

Inspiration

Color

I found these colors to pop most in my inspiration board and saw that they represented the colors of Italy, combining colors of nature, architecture, and lifestyle. There is a split-complement relationship with red-orange, green and blue; and a complementary relationship using green and purple-pink.

Patterns

These patterns were created from icons found in my inspiration board along with selected colors. I presented two colorways for each pattern to be designed for athleisure.
